Scan Exchange Server

This feature is only available in the "Enterprise Edition" of SpaceObServer!

SpaceObServer can scan and archive the storage of Exchange Server mailboxes.

To add a new Exchange Server scan use "Add Scan" from the main module "Scan" Ribbon or from within the Configure Scans dialog.
Configure the used "Scan target" accordingly (See "Scan Target").

To retrieve information about mailboxes you need to grant sufficient permission to the scan service "SpaceObServer scan service" as well as a trusted SSL/TLS certificate..
The following sections show how this can be done.

Important: The following sections contain steps that tell you how to modify the registry and the "Active Directory". However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry ("Active Directory") incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully.

To scan all the mailboxes of an Exchange Server you need a user account in your activate directory matching the following criteria:

1. The user needs to have a mailbox on the Exchange Server.

2. The user needs sufficient permissions to access the mailboxes that should be scanned (See: "Permissions for all mailboxes").

There are two ways to execute the Exchange Server scan in the context of a certain user account:

1. Use the user account as logon for the "SpaceObServer scan service" (See: "SpaceObServer scan service").

2. Obtain the user details at "Scan > Configure Scans > Expert Settings > Use different credentials for scan" (See: "Configure Scans")

To realize the communication between your machine and the Exchange Sever you also need a trusted certificate for the SSL/TLS secure channel. The same certificate is needed to ensure that e.g. "OWA" (Outlook Web Access) or "Outlook Anywhere" can run without any certification warnings.
Instructions how to install the trusted certificate can be found here.
